Travelling this Summer? Meet the Canvas & Leather Gladstone

Home or abroad, our Canvas & Leather Gladstone is the perfect companion for your much anticipated Summer holiday. Here’s why…

Here in Scotland we’ve been treated to a surprisingly sun-soaked late May Bank Holiday. And we’re banishing those ‘back to school’ blues as we enter June by thinking ahead to our next holiday opportunity.

So whether you’re thinking of planning an exotic trip somewhere far away, or embracing the homeland Staycation, your luggage plays an important role in the comfort and ease of your holiday adventure.

The Mackenzie Canvas & Leather Gladstone is the perfect companion for all kinds of trips. The canvas we use is made in Scotland, densely woven, and renowned for its strength, durability, and clever design that ensures it looks better with age (offering lots of wear, without the tear!).

In our latest Inside Mackenzie video, we join Simon from behind the workshop bench to learn more about the Scottish Canvas used in the Gladstone design. And as we’re all still dreaming of that holiday feeling… what better time to re-introduce this iconic travellers bag…

Overnight, Weekend, or both?

The Gladstone Canvas & Leather takes after its full leather sibling in the Gladstone family, and is available in both ‘overnight’ and ‘weekend’ sizes. Planning on extending your trip? No problem. Our classic design looks great as a set in pairs, meaning you can pack more and worry less.

Plus, don’t let the size fool you – a spacious bag does not have to equal bulk. The canvas core and minimal leather trims make both sizes deceptively light, offering capacious design without compromising on strength.

100% waxed and waterproof,
whatever the weather

Something of particular importance to those choosing to vacation in the UK this year, the Canvas exterior of the Gladstone is fully waxed and waterproof. Thus giving you peace of mind that your holiday treasures will stay in tact, regardless of the forecast.

And don’t just take our word for it! Watch Simon demonstrate just how resistant to our residential rain this material is in our latest insider video all about Mackenzie’s adoption of Scottish Canvas. (Scroll to the end to watch now)

Designed to go the distance

Unlike some travelling bags, the integral design has been cleverly crafted to suit the needs of those putting in the miles. The main compartment, as well as a large pocket, is made from a lighter 10oz canvas and is ideal for on-the-move must-haves, including small laptops, tablets, cables and wash bags. It’s stitched to the top frame only, meaning it can be pulled out of the bag for extra easy cleaning.

What’s more, the bottom is reinforced and has 6 solid brass feet on the underside to keep it off the ground. The double buckles and central lock fasten the iconic frame-top bar securely, whilst the hand-stitched corners offer extra reinforcement.

Make it yours to last a lifetime

Form a lasting bond with your bag and delight in taking it with you on every trip by customising to suit your personal preferences. Consider a choice of extras, including additional pockets, fittings, interior lining or embossed initials.

Compliment your chosen design with one of our classic Luggage Tags, available in a corresponding choice of leather for a practical yet distinguished finishing touch.

So whether it’s a staycation at home or some hotter days away, there’s no doubt a holiday this summer is in the bag(!).  And the Canvas & Leather Gladstone has to be our luggage of choice.

Now, pass the Pimms please….

You have a great web site for explaining the history and uses of the Gladstone Bag. Unfortunately I can’t find the page which shows all the Gladstone’s, how much they cost, and how to buy one. If you could point me in the right direction, I could buy one and not just learn about it. Thank you
